  No acid is used in this process, because using acid will destroy the fabric structure completely. This is a type of wash that uses the raw materials used for the laundry process to be oxidized. Acid washing is commonly used by immersing pumice in hypochlorite, the oxidizing agent used depends mainly on the type of fabric. When working with pumice stone, the washing machine and the item to be washed must be dry. Pumice stones are soaked in bleach (sometimes potassium permanganate) and left open for a while to allow them to become gelatinous. They are then processed in the washing machine along with the clothes. The degree of influence depends on the treatment time, the dissolved concentration of the oxidant and the amount of fabric relative to the stone. After being "treated" by Acid Wash, fabrics will take on a new beauty with individual splashes of color creating an extremely liberal style.
